It is intricately related to society and is influenced by the culture, and personality of a country. It is worth noting that African countries have struggled to locate skilled teachers. The ongoing changes in Nigeria’s governmental structures have a considerable impact on the educational sector. The ability of educational stakeholders to adapt to organizational changes has received a lot of attention in the last decade.

Nigeria provides a variety of options for meeting the country’s demand for teacher labor. Full-time, part-time, pre-service, and in-service education programs are available at several tertiary education institutions that offer teacher education programs.

As a result, FGN (2004) notes, “Since no education system can rise beyond the quality of its instructors, teacher education must remain a significant focus in all educational planning and growth.” Following on from the preceding, teachers are tasked with achieving societal expectations in terms of educating primary school pupils as well as secondary and tertiary students.

Secondary school is a step in the education transition FGN (2004). This is a forecasted period for youth specialization in science, social science, art, or commercials. As a result, the goal of Nigerian teacher education should be to educate highly motivated, conscientious, and successful classroom teachers for all educational levels in the twenty-first century.

 It should instill in aspiring teachers a desire to improve their creativity, nationalism, and sense of belonging. It should assist the prospective teacher in integrating into the social life of the home and community, provide him with adequate intellectual and professional backgrounds for his assignments, and provide the teacher who, through his training and discipline, will be adaptable to the changing roles of education in society.

Indeed, Nigerian teacher education should now generate knowledgeable programs and successful teachers capable of inspiring pupils to learn. These goals will be attained through the efforts of the educational administration, which is tasked with managing the school’s human, financial, and material resources.

Since the Church Missionary Society established the first teacher training college in 1859, teacher education has remained the primary means of educational development in the country and elsewhere. It should be noted that without an adequately trained teaching cadre, Nigeria cannot hope to expand its educational facilities.

The federal and state governments continue to pay close attention to and support this level of training. Most teachers are trained at the expense of the government, and many should be paid while in training by the twenty-first century, as they were in the past. Indeed, teacher education remains Nigeria’s most heavily supported level of education.

As a result, in order to fulfill their position in the school system credibly, educational administrators must possess certain qualities and beliefs, and there must be a reason for their selection.

The principal, who runs the school with other teaching and non-teaching staff, is at the helm of leadership in teacher education in Nigeria.

As a result, the principal is considered the school’s main executive and is accountable for everything that occurs in the school. The principal, as the chief executive, distributes duties to individuals who can perform them; yet, all responsibilities remain with him as the accounting officer.

The principalship is defined as the control of the school’s people and material resources. The job of the principal in the school is so vital that the school would cease to function without it.

Based on this foundation, educational administrators in Nigeria perform a range of functions in teacher education. Teacher education and teacher training are phrases that are used interchangeably. Teachers’ education is concentrated on policies and practices intended at providing aspiring teachers with the knowledge, attitude, conduct, and skills required to carry out effective activities in classrooms and other social venues such as churches and mosques.

More educational involvement is commonly regarded to be necessary for overall improvement. A multitude of initiatives, both formal and informal, to change the character and purpose of education reflect educational institutions’ crucial role in achieving it. Universal access to high-quality education is believed important for progress.

In order to generate qualified educators, the teacher education system has been overhauled. Several commissions and committees established by the federal and state governments have consistently underlined the necessity of high-quality teacher preparation matched to the demands of the educational system in recent decades.

Rapid changes in the national and worldwide educational, political, social, and economic environments have resulted in new thrusts throughout the last decade.

Constitutional purposes, principles of state policy direction, socioeconomic difficulties, and knowledge growth are all considered. Emerging expectations and changes in education, among other things, need the appropriate response of a futuristic education system and establish the framework in which teacher education programs must be evaluated.

Curriculum modification has also become required in light of some evident gaps in teacher education. The nature and goal of teacher education are, for the most part, consistent. The integration of theory and practice, as well as the curricular response to the requirements of the educational system, is still inadequate.

According to the Education Commission, “education determines the level of wealth, welfare, and security of the people in a science and technology-based world,” and “a strong program of teacher professional development is critical for the quality upgrading of education.”

Teachers are provided with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their employment.

In order to meet the rising demand for Universal Basic Education, the Nigerian government has established various training programs in collaboration with colleges of education, departments, and institutes of education in universities, teacher training colleges, and international agencies to establish teacher and in-service training centers.

As a result, an acceptable teacher education program has been chosen as the most effective means of attaining the educational aims and goals defined by the society it was designed to serve.

It is vital to attend a teacher training institute in order to teach effectively in a classroom setting.
